Heston Blumenthal at Waitrose

Well if I can't go to Heston, Heston has now come to me, via Waitrose. Having surpassed myself this week on the culinary front, my inspiration for last night's dinner had been exhausted. Don't know why but I always seem to tackle complicated dishes at my most busiest times. Possibly as an antidote to sitting in front of a computer for hours on end cooking is a release for the pressures of the day.

Anyway last night I really didn't feel like cooking, so off I poodled to Waitrose. I returned with a couple of dishes from their new Heston Blumenthal ready meal range - the cauliflower macaroni and the mashed potato. A quick pan fry of some salmon fillets, 30 minutes in the oven for the macaroni and 4 minutes in the microwave for the mash and dinner was ready!

The cauliflower macaroni was without doubt my favourite. With a hint of truffle oil it was creamy, perfectly seasoned with a crunchy topping. Oh it was heaven! The mash was slightly disappointing, a little bland in fact. The consistency was perfect, lovely potatoes but nothing out of the ordinary to be honest.

I could have happily just had the macaroni as a meal for one. Delicious. I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the gourmet range, which includes Shepherds Pie and Chilli Con Carne.

His Christmas puddings with a hidden orange are also on special offer at the moment - £10,49 so get down to your local Waitrose or have a look online here Heston Blumenthal range And you want to know the best thing? I didn't have to cook!
