Newington Nurseries, Stadhampton Oxfordshire

You may recall our trip to the Harcourt Arboretum near Oxford a few weeks back that I wrote about here, well not only did we experience this beautiful location but we discovered a most special secret garden centre, Newington Nurseries in South Oxfordshire is a cough and a spit from junction seven of the M40.

The discreet entrance gives no indication of the secret garden that lies hidden at the end of the path. When we parked we couldn't even work out where the entrance was, and I was just about to drive out when I spotted a little hidden walkway. Walking through is like entering a stranger's private property, a tranquil haven with objets d'art presiding over the space, it's only when you approach them that you see the discreet price tags.

The choice in plants is vast and unique, with all manner of unusual species available, the beautiful shop all too tempting whilst the cafe looked gorgeous set amongst the orchid conservatory. Newington is a Chelsea Flower Show award winner for good reason.

It was a shame that we arrived at the end of the day after we'd had a filling picnic and ice cream, I genuinely could have done with trying out the pretty cafe. Next time I'll make sure we stop for tea and cake and perhaps a plant or two or three...
