We ate 8 hours ago and I'm still feeling stuffed to the gills. Each year I try to make less food but inevitably I have a tough time squeezing the left overs into the fridge.
As has become tradition in our house, we had succulent juicy goose, red cabbage in pomegranate juice, red and green brussel sprouts, pigs in blankets and roast potatoes done in the goose fat that came in the box with lashings of lightly spiced gravy. For starters we had smoked salmon with a prawn cocktail followed by Christmas pudding and a robust cheese board. Our dinner was accompanied by a perfectly chilled bottle of Taittinger Champagne and a lovely Saint Emillion for afters!
I must say that Nigella's Christmas is my festive bible however this year I was also quite taken with Jamie's Brussel Sprouts and thought I'd give them a go, delicious they were too. Even Matilda tucked into her greens!
Despite having spent most of yesterday and today cooking I did manage to enjoy the food enormously and am looking forward to tucking into the leftovers on Tuesday, as we're heading to the Husband's family home tomorrow. It feels so special to have just the three of us on Christmas Day, we got up late, spent an hour enjoying Matilda gradually realise that presents are a good thing (she was a little unsure as to what was going on with all the wrapped up boxes), we had our lunch then collapsed on the sofa with Ratatouille and The Gruffalo's Son. A perfect Christmas Day.
