Bolo Rei for Epiphany...

Today is the Epiphany or the Day of Kings, it is typically celebrated and as equally important as Christmas throughout main land Europe. Each country with their own traditional cakes to be made and eaten today. France has the Galette Des Rois, Spain has the Roscon de Reyes and in Portugal, my family's home country, we eat the Bolo Rei.

I wrote about it this time last year and here is the recipe. I'll be popping to Lisboa in Golborne Road today to get our cake as I'm feeling a little lazy. It is a delicious cake filled with dried fruit, toasted pine nuts, walnuts and a little secret gift or dried broad bean. Traditionally whoever gets the secret gift in their slice will buy or make next year's cake. Wishing you a happy Epiphany!
