Home with a bang...

Talk about arriving home, after an incredible holiday, with a bang. After spending the day trying to battle with jet lag, catching up with hundreds of emails, doing some PR work for a client, doing two loads of washing, unpacking as well as cooking up dinner, I got a phone call from the husband to say he'd come off his bike and was heading to our local A&E department. My heart sank so I scooped up Matilda, grabbed the car keys and off we went. We arrived before him so waited patiently in reception, finally he walked through the door looking the antithesis of the healthy good looking boy from Brazil who'd left the house in the morning. Blood splattered all over his clothes and down his face, the first aider at his work had put a bandage round his head, the bruising on his face quite shocking.

For once this is going to be a positive NHS story, the staff were efficient, helpful and most of all speedy. We were there for less than 2 hours which included the examination, Xray, Tetanus injection, glueing of the eye and the clearing up of blood. Admittedly it probably wasn't the busiest day on the ward but I can't speak highly enough of the staff - the patience they displayed with the over excited and over tired Matilda running around, poking her head through every door that was ajar shouting 'Hiya' and 'See you soon', was quite extraordinary. She seemed blissfully unaware of what was going on treating the situation as an excuse for having a lot of fun.

Also got me thinking as to how much we take life for granted, I realised how much I do love this man and how I rely on him being there. I'm so thankful for him being in one piece and not lying in a hospital right now attached to machines. We were incredibly lucky the front wheel of his bike came off as he was leaving the car park at work and not whilst he was cycling around the Hammersmith roundabout, where he could have been knocked over by a bus or car. He's in moderately good spirits and is OK despite the aches and pains and the bruising that makes him look like he's been involved in a huge pub brawl! Take a look for yourself...
